It’s a cloudy day outside and Carlos is sitting on a bench in the park. Alex walks in and joins him.
“Ey, what’s going on,” Alex says as he sits beside his brother
“Just getting some air,” Carlos simply states
They are by a playground and watch the kids play as they talk.
Alex says to Carlos “, Been awhile since you’ve been to the park.”
“Yeah, I’ve been thinking a bit,” Carlos says as if he seems to be distracted by something on his mind.
-A long pause-
“I remember how we were when we were little,” says Alex as he looks at his brother reminiscing.
“Yeah things were different back then though,” Carlos says as he just continued to look at the kids.
They both notice that there are some kids picking on other kids in the playground at a distance.
“Wow look at those kids bullying the other kids.”
“It cant be helped, that’s the way things sometimes are,” Carlos says as he is defending what’s going on.
“Being bad doesn’t always give you everything.”
“Yeah but see how they are feared.”
“Yeah but then you cant be taken seriously,” Alex says firmly.
One of the kids takes a cookie from the other
“You can get what you want so fast.”
“They listen because they fear,” says Alex as he looks upon the kids.
Meanwhile as they speak, one of the kids gets in trouble for taking the cookie.
“So. That doesn’t make a difference.”
Alex looks at Carlos and says “, You don’t need to be bad to survive.”
“Those kids always have each others back when they need it.”
The others kids come and say that he didn’t do anything and save him from getting in trouble.
“Yeah they do but it brings trouble too if you don’t want to get involved in their messes.”
The kids go pick on another child in the playground
“Well if they’re a family they’ll have each others back no matter what.”
“When those bullies grow up they need to see that being good is the only path they should take, you get more that way.”
This is such a great dialogue scene...it played really well in class, too.
ReplyDeleteI love the subtext for this scene and can definitely see what these characters are really talking about.
